Scotland offers such a range of holiday and travel experiences that you will want to come back year after year to discover new places in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, we love Scotland and we hope you will too. Pets are welcome in many self catering properties, hotels and bed and breakfast, and of course you can always hire a caravan or mobile home and relax even more. For the brave and adventurous there is plenty of well equipped camping and caravan sites throughout Scotland and you can easily plan a 2-3 week holiday around these camp sites. Remember that if you are caravanning or using a campervan then being a member of the Caravan Club of Great Britain is required for many caravan parks.
We have been fortunate to have dogs in our home for over 14 years and each and every year we have taken our dogs on holiday with us, and we all love the holiday. The dogs have been on ferries to Lewis in the Outer Hebrides and to Orkney, with hopefully more Scottish Islands to be visited in future years. Having your holiday with you in Scotland probably gives you more freedom than nearly any other area of the UK, many of our beaches allow dogs in summer, and certainly all beaches we have been to in the Scottish Highlands and islands have welcomed dogs (mostly). In the more remote areas there is sometimes notices saying dogs are not allowed due to farm stock – sheep and cattle being on the land or on the beach! In most cases you can have your dog with you, sometimes on the lead, often off, as long as you make sure to clean up after your dog. As this is just commonsense there is no hardship involved. Some of my best life memories involve swimming in the beaches at Gairloch in Wester Ross and at Gruinard Bay, with my dog as well as taking them for long walks on Highland estate tracks where all your company is the occasional deer, and buzzards and eagles flying overhead.
We have featured properties and holidays available through the booking agency Hoseasons, however if you have holiday accommodation: a cottage, hotel, or a pup serving food that is pet friendly then we will be delighted to list your business, for free, just get in touch. If you have stayed somewhere that is pet friendly and you loved it please let us know the place, address and website and we will do our best to add your review.
